featuring stylist Chyna P.
TGIF everyone! I would like to introduce my first Feature Friday article starring my long time amiga Chyna P. I always have a blast with this lady and she has style I've admired for years. She has a unique, fun and no boundaries sense of fashion. Sounds like someone familiar?? Meeting her for the first time I knew we would hit it off and here we are six years later.
When I was thinking about launching this blog she was the first person I called. I love collaborating with her, because she keeps me on my toes and makes me think outside of the box. When she agreed to style my shoot, I was so excited I couldn't sleep that night.
I came over to her house on a Sunday afternoon, so she can work her styling magic on me. It has been a while since I've visited her and I forgot how much I missed it. Stepping into her closet feels like you have entered heaven. She has the perfect balance of trending items mixed in with thrifted gems. She has boxes upon boxes of shoes and accessories. I almost cried tears of happiness, because of all the neat jewelry she had collected over the years were now at my fingertips. I wanted to play dress up all day and try on every piece of jewelry. As we were sorting through all of the items, I caught myself a couple of times admiring the them verses pairing things with my outfit.
My style has changed dramatically over the years, especially since I've entered motherhood. In my pre-baby years, there wasn't a time you didn't see me in heels and always broke the "fingertip rule". Now, flats and cover ups are my best friend. I have learned that less is more and dress semi-conservatively at times. (I cannot and will not ever give up my love for bold colors and patterns.) Although, there are sometimes when I am trying to get dress and I look at myself in the mirror and think,
"HK you are too grown for this look!"But when I met up with Chyna and I was second guessing myself a lot on certain items thinking I might be doing TOO much. She gave me the intense blank serious stare and said,
"HK we are NOT ordinary people."I couldn't agree more with her and my creative juices started pouring out of my head. It reminded me of how I hate when people put limitations on themselves when it comes to fashion. Your style is your style and if you got it, WORK IT HONEY! It is great to have friends to push you to your limits and make sure you live up to your maximum potential. That is why I love her.
Ok. Now down to business. I wanted a relaxed, yet youthful and funky look that exemplified both our sense of styles. Something you could wear during the day with some flats and then spice it up with some heels for a casual night out with the girls. I dressed up my simple Hello Kitty graphic tee with a pair of high-waisted neon orange hot pants and topped the look off with some lace up heels. Chyna is rockin' her stonewashed black crop top paired with a statement necklace. Distressed denim cut-off shorts and floral boots for a kick of color. We had tons of fun putting this piece together for you and hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Don't forget to follow my girl Chyna on Instagram: chynazway. Have a fun and safe weekend!
